CYBER SPACE PLACE

Assignment

Gaining inspiration for somewhat-silly representations of "the web" in the 1990s, create a 3D space representing a website, application, or digital space.  Essentially, imagine what one of these places would look like if it were a 3D space as opposed to a traditional 2D UI.

Once finished, export your scene via Verge3D, and upload it to creative.colorado.edu or another web hosting server and link to it from your Design Blog.

I decided to recreate Instagram in a 3D space. I was inspired by Wreck It Ralph 2 because the entire movie is about social media and the internet, but because it's animated everything is in 3D. I started by taking a cube and increasing the height a bit. After that, I added a plane for the Instagram photo to sit on. Finally, I added a very thin cylinder for the profile picture to sit. On the back, I wanted to include the verified checkmark if the person was verified or not. I added the profile photo and feed photo as a material.

After that, I added text at the top for the username as well as at the bottom for the username and caption. I also added a 3D heart and speech bubble for the likes and comments. I made some aesthetic changes so the text contrasts with the background and I decided it would make sense if that color of the cube matches the photo that's being displayed.

I repeated this process for the other three sides and some adjustments to the color of the heart and speech bubble. I added lights aimed at each photo because it was too dark without it.

Finally, I went to the app manager in Verge 3D and clicked on the puzzle piece to add an animation. I wanted to keep things simple, so I added a rotation to the scene. Click          for the results!
