1.17.22
WEEK 2 PROGRESS

1. One 3D design in Blender and A-Frame. Have marker working.

As of 1/16/21...

I was able to get my custom marker working with a box. I tried multiple times importing a gltf file of the blender object I made, and it wouldn't show up. I found multiple tutorials online, but none of them were working. You can view the code for the box along with the marker and a video of it working below. Click          to test the AR.

Below you can see the code for my 2nd - 4th tests with the gltf model. These all were different methods from tutorials I found, but none of them worked. I plan on getting help from a friend this week on figuring out how to get my 3D design to actually show up.

2. Create 1 Sketch for New Item of Clothing

  • I decided to sketch the plastic puffer jacket. I have tutorials for how I will do this one and have started collecting the plastic for the filling inside. I also already have the zipper and plastic vinyl for the outside. However, I need to do some testing to see if it is too thick to sew or not.

3. Coordinate with those who will help with testing

I reached out to four friends who attend concerts/festivals, and they have all agreed to give me feedback! I ensured that these people are of different sizes, ages, and genders so they can provide different perspectives on the pieces. I also plan on using my Instagram stories and polls to get feedback from anyone who is willing to give it.

4. Consider marker placement

I decided that I will have the markers on the outfit items since it will be on a mannequin and not a moving person. Because each marker is embedded into its own HTML file, I will have signs with descriptions of each piece as well as a QR code that links to the HTML address. Right now, I plan on uploading everything to the creative.colorado.edu server. QR codes are a nonverbal form of communication that many people understand. When the QR code is scanned, it opens up to the address and will ask for camera access on the person's phone. They will then need to find the right marker to hover over in order to get the 3D objects to show.

5. Coordinate a model/mannequin

I decided to use a dress form (size 6) and have it ordered. It will be arriving between Jan 21st and 24th. I decided to design a Medium-sized outfit since it is "average" and many people I know are medium. I will be displaying my outfit on the dress form and not a person, so that is why I decided to go this route.
