WEEK 10 PROGRESS

1. What were your goals for this week?

  • Add pocket with a detachable marker (velcro) to overalls

  • Finish puffer vest (sew panels together, add a zipper, bias tape hem edges)

  • Decorate head that holds bioplastic accessories

  • Go back to the drawing board and complete the final marker

  • Get creative with display and test with a backdrop (won't have until thursday), scaled up statistics, and items.

2. What did you accomplish, please reflect on your time management. What worked or didn't?

I finished everything on my list this week except for the head because I decided to wait until the necklace mold came and the necklace was finished before I started. The mold for the bioplastic accessories arrived on Sunday, so I plan on finishing the necklace and head as part of my goals for this coming week. See all details for everything else below.

3. How did you integrate feedback?

I integrated feedback when it came to my display. I took Sasha's advice with the backdrop. I was limited with how big I could make things because my apartment isn't huge, so this will be something I plan on continuing to explore this week. I also have a friend who is a photography major. She also works at Wonder Wonder, so she has experience with displays. I plan on getting her help this week on proportions and where it would be best to place my items.

4. What was unexpected / what lessons did you learn?

Having a backdrop completely changes everything and brings the pieces together. I used pieces of large paper for this (you can see it behind my photos I took), so I decided to move forward with this idea.

Add Pocket to Overalls

This was relatively simple and one of the first things I finished. I used the patchwork pattern from before and cut out the pattern for the pocket. Then I hemmed the edges and attached it to the overalls. I put four sticky velcro pieces to the back of the marker and lined them up with the velcro on the pocket.

Finish Puffer Vest

For the vest, I attached the panels together, cleaned up the edges, and added a zipper. I decided to not use any bias tape because it would distract from the rest of the coat and wouldn't fit the aesthetic I was going for.

Complete Final Marker

For this last marker, I decided to test images alone and with graphics. Here are all of the markers I tested with no luck again for any of them.

Because I knew the color blocking worked for the overalls, I decided that this was my best move for the puffer coat too. Since it will be on the front, I decided to do yellow on top to blend into the gold and white and gray to match the plastic rows underneath. I would have liked to do a more complicated marker, but the more complex ones just don't work with the program.

Display and Backdrop

For my display, I am going to use a backdrop and use my cricut to cut the statistics out on vinyl/sticker paper then stick them to the backdrop. I ended up ordering a black backdrop for photoshoots since I needed one that was 10 ft x 12 ft. To add to my display, I went back to Macy's and found these clear stands for $2 each to hold my QR codes. I also found a giant flower from a display that I will use as a prop on the ground. I am waiting before I get more things though to see how much space we will have at the showcase.
