CREATIVE BRIEF

Assignment: For your Kinetic Typography project, write a short creative brief, describing both the technical and conceptual approach being proposed to execute the project. Discuss the overall design of your project from a visual and motion-based point of view.  Discuss to topic of your project, the text within, and the audio you plan on using.

I chose Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s DNC speech as my audio because it is extremely relevant to what is happening in the United States with the election right around the corner. She delivered a speech in 60 seconds that was both eloquent and impactful, and her tone was poised throughout. Because her speech was over one minute, I decided to use the first portion because I feel it captures her message the best.

 

When it comes to how I want this text to be visually represented, I want her tone to be expressed through the text, so if you weren’t able to hear her, you could understand how she is talking based on the font choice, colors, etc. I’m leaning towards a bold font that’s all caps, but I still need to do some more research. As for the motion aspect, I want the text to have a nice flow to it and not feel jarring or sporadic. There are certain words I want to highlight, so I’m thinking they will be the only word on the screen in order to drive the point of her speech home.

This is how I’ve broken up her speech so far:

"Good evening, bienvenidos,​

and thank you to everyone here today

endeavoring towards a

better,

more just future

for our country and our world.

In fidelity and gratitude to a mass people's movement,

working to establish 21st century social, economic, and human rights,

including guaranteed health care, higher education, living wages, and labor rights for all people in the United States;

a movement striving to recognize and repair the wounds of racial injustice, colonization, misogyny, and homophobia,

and to propose and build reimagined systems of immigration and foreign policy

that turn away from the violence and xenophobia of our past…"

Each line roughly represents a new idea and the bold words are ones I want to be on the screen by themselves. While this will most likely change as I work on this project, I know this is something I’m very passionate about and am excited to get started.

STORYBOARDS

Assignment: For your Kinetic Typography project, develop a series of storyboards to help demonstrate the visual and motion-based experiences planned for your project.  Storyboards should be used to give a basic sense of motion, layout, and progression within your work.  Storyboards should demonstrate, from start to finish, how you plan on your project taking place.  You may develop your storyboards using any tools needed but hand-drawings are likely the easiest and most effective way to approach them.
