SCULPTING
Assignment 1
Choose one of the three sculpting tutorial videos found under Resources & Examples for today's lesson, follow along, and complete the model.

Once finished, you should render your model as images from a front, side, and isometric view, and then add these images to your design blog. Also be sure to take several work-in-progress screenshots from inside of Blender and include them in your blog post as well with very brief text descriptions of each.

I followed along with the second tutorial for the rhino. I forgot to take more than two screenshots of my in-progress work, so that's my fault. Blender crashed so I was just trying to redo the assignment in a timely manner and didn't remember to take them until the end.

I started with the sculpt doc then made sure Dyntopo was checked. I made the detail constant and selected detail flood fill. It's important that the X is also selected so that every action is mirrored. I increased my brush size to 150ish and then started to pull the front part of the body out with the snake brush. After that, I moved onto the horn in the front making sure the dots were on top of each other so it was coming out of the center. Then I moved onto the ears and used a smaller brush size to pull them out. I used the crease and draw sharp brushes to get the concave aspect of the ears. After that, I made the tail by pulling out a long strip then significantly reducing my brush size to get the hair. This was the hardest part by far. Finally, I made the legs by pulling out nubs. He used the flatten brush to make them as even as possible. Before moving onto details, I smoothed out the rhino as much as possible.

I moved on to the details and started with the mouth. I used the crease and draw sharp brushes as a very small size. I did the same thing for the nose and for the eyes I used the draw tool for the eyelid as well as the part that is slightly bulged out. Finally, I made the pupil with the crease and draw shart brushes. I also used a small crease brush for the horn details and toes. It was very hard for me to get these parts smooth while still keeping detail, so I did my best.

I added a clay-like material and added lights on the top and bottom to illuminate the rhino.

Assignment 2
Choose a fairly simple character for a cartoon, video game, or film and do sculpt them using the sculpting tools available in Blender. Begin by blocking in their primary shapes and forms. Afterwards, apply a moderate amount of detail to your model using additional sculpting tools. A recommended starting point for your model would be something similar to a basic Pokemon.

For my simple sculpt, I chose Pikachu because he's one of the only Pokemon characters I know. I started by finding 3D images of him to use as references:

1) To start, I opened a sculpt doc then shaped Pikachu's head to be wider on the bottom and smaller on top. I duplicated this object so I could then use it as a base for the body.

2) After that, I duplicated the body and scaled it down to where one of his ears would be. I sculpted it and used the grab brush to get the point and smoothed it out as much as possible. I then duplicated the finished ear and flipped it over the x axis.

3) I copied the ear and positioned it to where his right arm would be. I sculpted it to be thicker and blend into his body and added 5 fingers. I then duplicated and mirrored it for his other arm.
4) For Pikachu's feet, I repeated the same process and used his arm as a base. I smoothed out the fingers before using the grab brush to create the toes and pulling it up to make his little leg. I duplicated and mirrored across the x axis.

5) For his facial features, I copied his head and flattened and reshaped them for the cheeks, duplicated and flipped it for the other cheek. For his eyes, I used two cylinders and made the smaller one match where it is in the reference image. I also added a mouth (not pictured) using curves and placed the vertices along the face.

6) Finally, All that was left was his tail. This was pretty hard because it was difficult to get the edges both sharp and smooth. I didn't do as many parts of the tail as there are in the reference picture, but I still wanted it to be obvious that it's a lightning bolt. The final steps were to add materials. See the final renderings below!
