PROJECT 2 - INFOGRAPHIC

CREATIVE BRIEF - 10.7.20

Assignment: For your Motion Infographic project, write a short creative brief, describing both the technical and conceptual approach being proposed to execute the project. Discuss the overall design of your project from a visual and motion-based point of view.  Discuss the topic of your project, the text and visuals within, the data, and the audio you plan on using.

The Environmental Impacts of Fast Fashion

I plan on doing an informational and statistical infographic on the fast fashion industry and the effects it has on the environment. I plan on using data from studies based in the U.S. between 2018 and 2020 from The New York Times, CNBC, EDGE, and other similar sources with up-to-date information. When it comes to background music, I plan on choosing an instrumental song that is serious but increases with intensity as the statistics continue to be displayed. This is a topic that shouldn’t be taken lightly, and I want this to be reflected in all aspects of my infographic. I found this song that fits the tone I’m going for very well.

When it comes to visuals, I plan on using images and videos that correlate to the processes within fast fashion to explain the impacts it has. I will also use images to show these impacts. If I can find strong media in these forms, it will elevate the overall video. However, I do not want to overuse them or implement them in a way to where it is distracting from the main points I am making through the statistics and information shown through text. I plan to blur the backgrounds on the images and videos a bit so that the text is clearer and easier to read.

I will begin by defining fast fashion and then move onto how the viewer could relate to this topic. While not everyone has participated in purchasing from major companies, they have most likely heard about it. Throughout the video, I want to show the effects mass production has on the planet and that this industry not only affects the land, air, and water but also everything that lives on it. I’ll do this through statistics and then I also want to propose solutions or a question at the end as a call to action to my viewer and help them analyze other shopping habits they might have that aren’t sustainable.

Moving towards supporting sustainable clothing brands and recognizing brands that aren’t changing is something that has become a very integral part of my life. Through this infographic, I want to inform my viewer, and if they have been supporting the fast fashion industry that there are still ways to get clothes that are more humanely made.
